Note: Manual starters don’t break control circuits during power loss, which means motors may restart automatically when power returns – an important safety consideration for certain applications.
When the engine is activated (via start button or key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component directs power from the battery to the starter motor, which engages the starter drive (Bendix gear system) with the vehicle’s flywheel.
The starter motor cranks the engine to initiate combustion in petrol and diesel vehicles. Once the engine is running, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the flywheel as the engine no longer requires the electrical spark to maintain operation.
