How Starter Motors Work
When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers charge from the vehicle’s battery to the starter motor, activating it and engaging the starter drive (Bendix gear system) with the vehicle’s flywheel.
The starter motor turns to crank the engine and initiate combustion in petrol and diesel vehicles. Once the engine runs properly, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the gear and flywheel as the engine no longer requires the electrical spark.
